The iPad Pro stand is a further development of our original iPad stand.

THE STRUGGLE WITH LOST PENS

When we first used the Apple Pencil in 2016 it was quickly apparent that Apple had come up with yet another game-changing innovation that would gain prominence in the future. But not even the Apple Pencil was immune to permanently going astray, just as any other pen. Under the desk, behind the keyboard; the search for the misplaced pencil became a daily misery. We longed for a way to have the Apple Pencil always at hand, and to store it safely, when it wasn’t in use. The iPad Pro stand is a natural development and evolution of our original iPad stand.

DESIGN THOUGHTS

The iPad Pro stand is a singular combination of high functionality and versatility, intuitive use, and a slender appearance.

APPLE PENCIL

Various magnets incorporated in the front edge provide the possibility to easily attach both generations of Apple Pencils. A ridge along the entire width of the stand helps to stabilize the Pencil in its correct position and makes it very easy to attach the Pencil without thought.

The backrest for the iPad was raised to give more space to incorporate a slot to store the Apple Pencil inside. A velvet lining helps to rest the Pencil soft and firm and gives a smooth experience when putting the pencil in or taking it out.

ONE PIECE

Most iPad holders that provide multiple viewing angles require different moving parts in order to work. Parts that could wear, break, and make it complicated and bulky to use. We searched for a design that allowed for the easiest use possible with still the highest versatility. We reversed the approach of solving the problem of providing multiple angles. This iPad stand is made solely from one piece of wood, without moving parts. It’s designed to move with the iPad, supported by three different footprints.

THE SHAPE

The general shape and the position of the footprints follow the function and are derived from a structural calculation to provide the best functionality and highest stability. We extensively cycle-tested many different variations and prototypes to determine the ideal composition of angles for a most practical use and to arrive at a final design, a light, thin profile that’s optically reduced to the bare minimum.
