The Apple Sidecar feature was first announced at Apple’s WWDC event, and it is yet to be introduced to Macs and iPads. This capability will be included in an operating system update in the fall of 2019. With the feature, people will be able to use their iPads as secondary displays along with their Mac devices. However, having the right stand to support your iPad Pro when using Sidecar can greatly enhance your experience. Read on to learn more about the Sidecar feature and why our Yohann iPad Pro Stand with Apple Pencil Holder would make an ideal choice.

HOW DO YOU USE THE SIDECAR FEATURE?

Sidecar feature is quite easy to use. You simply need to connect your iPad to your Mac using Bluetooth or a regular charging cable. If you choose to connect them using Bluetooth, you will have to make sure the two devices stay within 10 meters of each other.

This feature is meant to provide extra screen space for your Mac device. Apple has announced that it will work with most drawing apps.

The feature can only be used in specific devices, and you will have to get the iPadOS 13 software update. You will first have to connect your Mac device with your iPad. As stated earlier, this can be done using Bluetooth or a USB cable. You will also need to make sure your Mac and iPad devices are both logged into the same iCloud account.

Once the two devices are connected, you will have to click on the AirPlay menu on your Mac. You will see your iPad on this menu and will have the option of extending your screen space or simply mirroring your Mac. If you choose to extend your screen space, you will be able to open some apps on your Mac and different ones on your iPad. For example, you can use Adobe Illustrator on your iPad and, at the same time, watch videos on your Mac. With the second option, the images on your Mac and iPad will be the same.

You should note that some iPad features will not be available when you are connected to your Mac. This Sidecar casting capability is primarily meant to offer you extra screen space to work with, and that is why Apple only included apps that can be used for drawing, illustration, or annotation.

SIDECAR CASTING WITH COMFORT

Using Sidecar effectively would require you to interact with the iPad Pro & Apple Pencil but given its relatively large form-factor, holding the iPad Pro in your hands for longer duration is not very comfortable. The right stand can support the iPad Pro in a manner that greatly improves the experience of using the iPad Pro for extended duration. That’s why we created the Yohann iPad Pro Stand with Apple Pencil Holder.

Here are some features which make Yohann iPad Pro Stand interesting for anyone who plans on using the new Sidecar capability:

Use Sidecar with enhanced comfort and ergonomics

The stand has an ergonomic design and is very comfortable to use. It can be used when the iPad is in theatre or landscape mode and in 3 different positions. The design of this stand makes it ideal for drawing, annotating, or sketching on your iPad Pro with your favourite Sidecar- enabled apps while simultaneously visualising and importing the results on your MacBook / iMac.

Turn your iPad Pro into a Wacom-like Mac input device

Change your workflow radically. The combination of iPad Pro & Apple Pencil along with a Yohann iPad Pro Stand and Sidecar-enabled Mac provides the best option of inputting your creations on Mac.

Never lose your Apple Pencil

We designed it with 2 different Apple Pencil Holders – a magnetic holder for quick access and a dedicated slot to secure the Apple Pencil for longer term storage.

Single Piece, Elegant Sculptural Design

Yohann stand has no moving parts unlike other stands. Most functional products that provide multiple viewing angles for the iPad Pro require different moving parts to work. In order to achieve a simple, durable and highly functional product, we designed our iPad Pro Stand as a one-piece product that moves with the iPad Pro. The shape has been optically reduced to the absolute minimum in order to create a light and thin profile.

CONCLUSION

Sidecar is a great new possibility to integrate your iPad Pro even more into your workflow and your daily life. Combined with the Yohann stand for iPad Pro you can enhance the versatility of your iPad Pro and your Apple Pencil even further, with more comfort and style.

FAQs

How to Sidecar an iPad?

To use Sidecar and extend your Mac's display with your iPad, ensure both devices meet the system requirements (macOS Catalina or later on the Mac and iPadOS 13 or later on the iPad). Then, make sure both devices are signed in with the same Apple ID and connected to the same Wi-Fi network.

On your Mac, click the AirPlay icon on the menu bar and select your iPad from the list. Alternatively, go to System Preferences > Displays > Arrangement and enable "Show displays in the menu bar." Click on the AirPlay icon in the menu bar and choose your iPad to enable Sidecar. Your iPad will now act as a secondary display for your Mac.

What is an Apple Sidecar?

Apple Sidecar is a feature introduced in macOS Catalina that allows you to use an iPad as a secondary display for a Mac. With Sidecar, you can extend your Mac's screen or mirror it on the iPad, offering additional workspace and seamless integration between the two devices.

Sidecar also supports Apple Pencil, allowing users to draw, sketch, and interact with Mac apps using the iPad as a graphics tablet.

Which iPads support Sidecar?

Sidecar is supported on iPads running iPadOS 13 or later. Here is a list of iPads that support Sidecar:

  • iPad Pro (all models)
  • iPad (6th generation) and later
  • iPad mini (5th generation)
  • iPad Air (3rd generation)
  • iPad Air (4th generation)

Keep in mind that your Mac also needs to be compatible with Sidecar, which requires macOS Catalina or later. Additionally, both the Mac and iPad need to be signed in with the same Apple ID and connected to the same Wi-Fi network for Sidecar to work.
